Twenty-four-year-old karting champion Scott Pruett had one of his first professional drives in Phil Conte's Mazda RX-7. Pruett would go on to claim championships in IMSA GTO, Trans-Am and Grand-Am, the Indy 500 rookie of the year award, as well as wins in Indy cars and at Le Mans.
